The fairways of the Nyali Golf & Country Club IN Mombasa county are set for a vibrant double-header, as the Club hosts the much-anticipated October Mug & Ladies’ Medal tournament on Saturday.
The popular monthly event, which combines the traditional Mug for men and the competitive Ladies’ Medal, is expected to attract over 120 golfers from across the Coast region and beyond and will be Tee-off for early morning with both morning and afternoon flights.
Club Lady Captain Zaituni Mohamed leads charge in the much-anticipated vibrant double-header as the Club boasts of having the largest numbers of both Lady veterans, Seniors and Juniors who will be joined by Men players to battle on the fairways.
Zaituni said the ladies section is fired up and ready to showcase their prowess, noting that October has always been a special month for lady golfers at Nyali.
“We are very excited as ladies. The Ladies’ Medal is not just a competition; it is where we test our progress. Our ladies have been training hard on short game, on putting, on endurance. After the busy September calendar, October gives us a chance to play at home and defend our course,” said Zaituni.
She pointed out that currently the course is playing beautifully, the greens are true, the fairways are lush after the rains and the rough will punish wayward shots.
“I expect a very competitive field. I call upon all lady golfers, both members and non-members, to come and enjoy the course. This is our month, let’s make it colorful. We have many Veteran Ladies’ and young girls coming up from our junior program who will be playing in the Medal. It is a great learning platform. The Mug for the men also brings energy to the club. We want to see families at the Club, husbands in the Mug and wives in the Medal, “said Zaituni.
According to the program released by the Club, entry fee is Ksh 900 for members, Ksh 2,000 for non-members and an optional Ksh 200 ball pool, an affordable charge that has already sparked huge interest among members and visiting golfers from Vipingo, Diamond, Mombasa Golf Club, Malindi and guests with valid handicaps currently in holiday at the Coast.
The October Mug is one of Nyali’s signature monthly competitions, that rewards consistency and resilience, while the Ladies’ Medal is a serious Stroke play contest where every shot counts and together, they create a festival of golf, competitive yet social.

Club Chairman Michael Sangoro echoed the Lady Captain’s sentiments, saying the Club has put everything in place to ensure a world-class October edition and delighted on behalf of the Board and Management to host this anticipated tournament.
“This is one of our most cherished monthly fixtures because it brings together the entire club members, non-members, ladies, men and guests. Nyali is more than a golf club, it is a community. The October Mug has history, you play not just for the trophy but for pride, for bragging rights at the 19th hole. The Ladies’ Medal on the same day adds color and competition,” noted Sangoro.
The Chairman further stated that the club has invested heavily in course maintenance and hospitality, with the iconic clubhouse ready to welcome golfers.
“Our green-keepers have worked round the clock. Expect firm fairways, well-manicured greens and a true test of golf. Our catering and entertainment team is also ready for a lively prize-giving ceremony,” said Sangoro.
He also lauded the growing partnership between Nyali and other Coast clubs, saying the busy October calendar, with the current NCBA Mombasa Local Tour Junior legs in the region, shows the Coast golf circuit is thriving.
“We are busy this October and that is the beauty of our calendar. We encourage golfers to turn u in large numbers. That is how we grow the game,” noted Sangoro.
The tournament will be played under R&A rules and local rules of Nyali Golf & Country Club, with official handicaps in effect for the Ladies’ Medal while registration is ongoing at the Club’s office and players are advised to book early due to high demand.
With the sun shining, the course in pristine condition and the Clubhouse ready, all roads lead to Nyali this weekend, where history, beauty and competition meet at the Coast’s premier golf destination.
