The dream of playing on the DP World Tour just got a clear road map, as Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL), through its Safari Tour, in collaboration with the Sunshine Development Tour (SDT) East Africa Swing, has announced the Road to MKO 2027 qualification pathway for regional players.
The announcement, made on 2nd November 2026, outlines the eight tournaments through which regional professional golfers will compete for places in the 2027 Magical Kenya Open (MKO), scheduled for 18th to 21st February 2027.
For the first time in a long while, regional pros know exactly where they stand, what they must play, and what is at stake.
Eight Tournaments, one dream, the qualification pathway features eight designated tournaments spread across Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya.
The journey started with the Uganda Open in Uganda, played from 1st to 5th September 2026, which is already concluded, and from there, the action moves to Nigeria for two big stops, CIO Golf Classic at Python International Golf Club, Port Harcourt, Nigeria on 12th to 15th November 2026, Alpha Bravo Golf Classic (SDT) at Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate, Lagos, Nigeria from 18th to 21st November 2026.
Then the tour returns home to Kenya for a busy December to February run starting with Sundev EA Sigona Classic (SDT) at Sigona Golf Club, Kenya from 6th to 8th December 2026, Safari Tour in Karen Leg at Karen Country Club, Kenya from 9th to 13th January 2027.
Others includes the Sundev EA Limuru Challenge (SDT) at Limuru Country Club, Kenya from 17th to 19th January 2027, the Safari Tour of the Muthaiga Leg at Muthaiga Golf Club, Kenya from 30th January to 3rd February 2027 and the Sundev EA Tour Finale (SDT) at Karen Country Club, Kenya from 5th to 7th February 2027
That finale at Karen, just 11 days before the Magical Kenya Open tees off, will be the last chance for regional players to punch their ticket.
How Qualification Will Work, is that under the qualification framework, each player’s best four results from the eight designated tournaments will count towards the qualification ranking for the 2027 Magical Kenya Open.
Ranking points will be weighted according to each tournament’s prize fund, with players ranked based on the points earned from their best four performances.
In simple terms, consistency matters, but you do not have to play all eight, play well in four, and you give yourself a real chance.
It also means a player who misses one event due to travel, injury or form is not automatically out, the system rewards your best golf, not just your busiest schedule.
The number of qualification slots available to regional professional golfers for the 2027 Magical Kenya Open remains subject to ongoing discussions between KOGL and the DP World Tour. The final allocation will be announced once confirmed.
Why this matters for Regional Golf, is that the collaboration with SDT aims to strengthen professional golf development across the region by providing a structured and competitive pathway to the Magical Kenya Open through designated tournaments.
It also underscores KOGL and SDT’s commitment to developing professional golf across East Africa and the wider region by creating a structured qualification pathway to international competition.
For years, regional professionals have complained about unclear routes to big events, this time, the pathway is published, the dates are fixed, and the rules are clear.
Through the designated tournaments, regional professionals will have opportunities to demonstrate their competitive ability and earn qualification points towards the Magical Kenya Open.
For young pros from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Nigeria, this is more than just a ranking, it is a chance to test themselves against stronger fields, earn Official World Golf Ranking points where applicable, and gain exposure in front of DP World Tour scouts, sponsors and fans.
The 2027 Magical Kenya Open, which is part of the DP World Tour, brings together leading international professionals and qualifying players from Kenya and the region.
Played at Karen Country Club, it is Kenya’s biggest golf event and one of Africa’s flagship tournaments on the global calendar.
For regional players, just getting into the field is life-changing. It means competing alongside stars they normally only watch on TV, playing for a big prize purse, and playing in front of home crowds.
For Kenyan golf, it means more local representation, more stories for fans to follow, and more inspiration for juniors watching from the ropes.
All eyes now turn to Port Harcourt and Lagos in November, where the two Nigerian legs will set the early pace in the rankings.
Then Sigona in December will kick off the Kenyan swing, before the crucial January double-header at Karen and Limuru.
By the time the Muthaiga Leg and the Karen Finale arrive in late January and early February, the battle for the final slots should be intense.
Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) Chairman Patrick Obath, said it’s really great to see how the SDT has grown as the level of competition has also improved tremendously, and this bodes very well for the players who will qualify to play in the Magical Kenya Open.
“Based on the amount of golf played in the last six months, we’re hopeful that we’ll have more Kenyan and regional players making the cut. I’d like to thank SDT for the work they’ve put in and the players for sharpening their game. It’s building towards a stronger show next February,” said Obath.
KOGL has asked media and fans to follow updates through its official channels, and for more information and media enquiries, to contact Media@kenyaopengolf.com.
One thing is clear, the Road to MKO 2027 is no longer a rumor, it is a calendar, a ranking, and a real opportunity.
For regional pros, the message is simple, “play your best four, and Karen wait in February.”
