Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) celebrates the arrival of luxury Cruise Liner ‘Norwegian Dawn’ to the Port of Mombasa from Seychelles with 2220 tourists aboard over the weekend.

With a length overall of 294 meters and a draft of 8.3 meters, she is one of the largest cruise vessels to ever call Mombasa bringing the over 2000 tourists from various nationalities majorly the United States of America to the Kenyan shores.

Enhanced infrastructure notably a modern cruise terminal and other strategic developments have led to a surge in cruise vessel calls at the ports of Mombasa and Lamu, positioning Kenya as key destination for international cruise liners.

She sails to Mombasa barely one week since the port hosted two other cruise vessels, MS Europa and MS World Odyssey popularly known as ‘Semester at Sea’.

MV Norwegian Dawn received a special treatment with Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir witnessing the arrival of the vessel which was also piloted by the KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto in the early morning hours when she arrived.


Also present was the Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir flanked by Coast Politicians Omar Mwinyi, Mishi Mboko and Miraj Addalla among others.


Passengers aboard ‘Norwegian Dawn’ will enjoy various activities during their one-day stay in Mombasa including visiting Tsavo and Amboseli National parks, city excursions and a tour of the Wasini island.


His excellency president William Samoei Ruto was at the Port of Mombasa to welcome the cruise liner when it arrived in Mombasa this morning and noted that the government will continue marketing Kenya in collaboration with stakeholders to expand cruise tourism.


Norwegian Dawn which is one of the largest cruise ships arrived this morning for the second time after making her maiden call to port of Mombasa early last year.
The arrival of the ship is a clear testament of government’s effort to support the growth of cruise tourism in the country.


KPA has made significant investments with the development of a modern eco-friendly cruise terminal at the port of Mombasa that has raised the standard of the cruise industry in the country.
The Cruise liner which sailed from Seychelles with 2200 tourists and 995 crew members on board boasts is expected to cruise to Zanzibar after a one-day stay at the port Mombasa.


Majority of the excited tourists in the ship are visiting various tourists’ attraction sites including the national parks and excursions within the Coast.
