GOLF-NEWS-Jebet and Team Bag First Leg of KCB Golf Series at Sea-Link Mombasa Course;

-KCB returns to the Club after 24 years absence with good news to support the Club’s potential  members to pay for the joining fee on a flexible monthly payment plan and also support members in purchasing golf kits and other requirements;

The four-ball of Prisca Jebet, Rishi Dodhia, Florence Karimi, and Orpha Wamaitha returned a combined score of 113 points to emerge as the overall winners of the first leg of the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the par 71 Mombasa Golf Club on Saturday in Mombasa County.

The quartet triumphed over the team led by Mombasa Club Captain James Gitonga, Elijah Ibua, Gabriel, Gakuo, and Peter Kimanga, who returned 112 points to settle for the second position.

The two teams have booked a slot in this year’s grand finale slated for December where the venue and date will be announced at a later date.

Speaking after their win, an ecstatic Prisca Jebet said, “We had an amazing golf outing here today. We wanted to participate in the tour’s grand finale, which is why we pushed ourselves to ensure that a win was the only outcome at the end of the day. I cannot wait to compete against top golfers in the country and across the region later this year.”

Handicap 20 golfer Willy Sang soared high to card an impressive 40 stable ford points to be crowned the overall winner award, beating a large field of 138 golfers who graced the tourney.

Former Club chairman Peter Kimanga, who plays off handicap 12, showcased a valiant display and golf prowess after clinching 39 points to claim the men’s winner award at the lush Mombasa course.

In the hotly contested women’s Category, Orpha Wamaitha carded an excellent 39 stable ford points to clinch the award. Mattias Lagermo, on the other hand, scooped the guest winner award.

KCB’s Ibrahim Lande, who plays off handicap 13, bagged the staff winner award, while handicap 8 golfer Martin Kiambi clinched the runner-up position after returning 34 Stable ford points. The nearest to the pin award went to Dr. Kikwai Kibet.

The longest drive  prizes for Men and Lady was won by Emmnauel Lumatete and Grace Kwamboka respectively.

Saturday’s action will culminate in a junior golf clinic on Sunday at the same venue and a tree-planting exercise as KCB embed its sustainability agenda at the heart of the golf series.

To further enhance the sport, KCB will on every Monday host a caddie’s tournament which will also be done across the 11 qualifying legs of the 2024 action in a bid to bring everyone on board to relish the experience.

Club Chairman Paul Munyao and Captain James Gitonga thanked KCB for coming back to the Club after 24 years  and  promised to work together for the benefit of both stake holders.

KCB Director Corporate Banking John Okulo during the prize giving ceremony in the evening noted that it was a great pleasure to mark the first leg of the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Tour, at this scenic Mombasa Golf course.

“I want to thank you all for honoring our invitation and making today’s tournament a great success to kick off our 2024 golf engagements. My gratitude also goes to Mombasa Golf Club, for being such great hosts, “said Okulo.

He pointed out that this year, they are living up to the promise they made last year to make this edition bigger and better by traversing twenty Counties in Kenya and four other countries in the East African region namely in Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda.

He said the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Tour will feature a 24-leg amateur series, and with deliberate efforts to bring everyone on board by sponsoring club nights in different golf courses across the country, as part of the tour.

“We intend to interact with 3,000 golfers, and 1,000 juniors through the clinics that will ran concurrently with the series in a bid to expand the sport and give everyone an opportunity to enjoy the series, “he said.

The Director announced that the series will culminate in a grand finale in December, where the top teams from each leg will meet, to crown the overall winners, who will go on to play at the 2025 Magical Kenya Ladies Open Pro-Am event, at the PGA Baobab Golf Course, Vipingo.

“In addition, the club that produces the winning team will win a cash prize of KShs 1 Million towards a sustainability project that they are currently undertaking. To further enhance the experience on the tour this year, KCB has partnered with Beulah City, a property firm, who have committed to give an apartment (in the Ikhaya Beulah Genesis project) valued at KShs.2.1 million as the hole in one prize for every leg of the 2024 tour. The Director also announced that that for the first time ever, the Bank is proud to partner with this club to support potential members to pay for the joining fee on a flexible monthly payment plan  and also, support members in purchasing golf kits and other requirements.

“Through this partnership the club will also offer discounted prices to KCB customers and members on joining fee, kits and so on. We aim to replicate the same in all other clubs in the country,”said Okulo.

Eldoret Golf Club will play host to the second leg of the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Tour on February 17, 2024.
