Kenya Junior Golfers are using the current school holidays to conquer various Golf courses by displaying their skills and talents in recording excellent results to prove they are the future golfers.
The junior golfers between 6 to 18 years rolled off their sleeves off at the Karen Country Club course at the weekend in an intense competition for the US Kids tour golf tournament.
Among them was Zianna kodha who displayed patience, remarkable skills and talents amidst challenging cold and wet weather condition to emerge the overall winner of the 9-10 years old category in the Us Kids Spring Tour Golf tournament.
It was not however a sweet victory but Kodha in an intense contest was able to displace her closest rivals Ashley Gachora and Aria Dodhia in a match play off decider after all the three ended up with a sterling seven over par 43 strokes each.
In the playoff drama Kodha’s resilience and focus prevailed, earning her the well-deserved title in this Karen Leg of the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF), Junior Tour sponsored by NCBA Bank featuring boys and girls aged from 6 years to 18 years old.
Khoda expressed a mix of nerves and pride, emphasizing the support she received from her friend Dodi.
“I was nervous and scared of what’s going to happen. But I kept telling myself if anything happens, I should feel proud of myself and proud of my best friend (Dodhia) because we both tried hard to get there. We suffered and we enjoyed it, “said Dodhia.
In the boys 11 years old category, Adam Nesbitt demonstrated exceptional skill, securing victory by a carding 80 strokes.
“Today was quite hard because of the rains and the bad weather. My game wasn’t that good, my putting let me down especially, but everything else was fine. You just need to get very equipped for the rain, know how to play in those bad conditions, and also keep practicing in those conditions to get better when it becomes worse,” said Nesbitt.
Shuan Peng and Palash Tank tied for the runners up slot after each brought 85 strokes.
Yolanda Yu also celebrated a memorable victory, clinching the girls 13-14 years category title on her 14th birthday with 86 strokes to further solidify her position as a rising star in junior golf.
“I was really happy. I told my dad that it is my birthday and I’m going to do something on my special day and I’m going to get number one. And there was no reason for me not to get number one because first, I have new clubs, my dad bought me the other day, it is raining and not hot and I like playing here when it is raining because I got all my energy,” Yu.
Sophia Nesbitt and Nkini Pash each recorded 89 strokes to share the second slot.
The junior golfers have no time to rest as they move to the Kenya Junior Stroke play Championship for boys and girls at the Muthaiga Golf Club from Monday 8th to Thursday 11th of April 2024 supported by NCBA Bank as title sponsors.
