Professional golfer Edwin Mudanyi sailed his Amateurs team to victory in the Safari Tour Season Sixth third leg played at the prestigious Sigona Golf Club in Nairobi on Saturday.
The ABSA Bank sponsored tournament saw Mudanyi’s team of Amateurs Vijay Dhodia, Bhavni Shah and Harshida Shah recording a combined score of 83 points to emerge the overall team winners and bagged a total of Ksh.30, 000 as prize money.
Professional golfer Abraham Galgalo with Amateurs comprising Saayam Shah, Rushabh Shah and Cornelius Parsayo brought a total of 82 points to emerge runners up going home with Ksh.20, 000.
The Pro Am individual overall winner was handicap 16 G.S.Pull with a count back score of 40 points after tying on the same score with men winner placed handicap 18 Sawan Raikundalia and the men runners up on 39 points was handicap 12 Kuldip Devgun.
Handicap 22 Isabella D’Souza returned 35 points to win the lady’s prize while handicap24 Shobna Patel on 31 points and handicap 9 Viraaj Shah with 32 points were the Lady and Junior winners respectively.
This tour taking place from 6th to 10th January 2024 at the prestigious is a premier golfing event that has garnered attention of 69 professionals and amateurs drawn from Namibia, Zambia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Tanzania, Malawi, and the host country, Kenya.
This event organized by the Kenya Open Golf Limited is the Tour’s Season Sixth, third leg that commenced with a Pro-Am event with the main event which started on Sunday running till Wednesday.
The stakes are high, with a total prize money pool of one million Kenya shillings up for grabs and the ultimate champion will walk away with a substantial prize of one hundred and fifty thousand Kenya shillings.
This significant prize underscores the Safari Tour’s commitment to rewarding excellence and showcasing the best of African golf talent.
The top 8 players of the Safari Tour series will earn the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Magical Kenya Open, scheduled to take place from 22nd to 25th February 2024 and Dismas Indiza is currently on the lead with 122 points followed by Daniel Nduva with 99 points.
From Singona action moves to Limuru Country Club from 13th to 17th January, then Muthaiga Golf Club from 27th to 31st January and Karen Country Club from 3rd to 7th February.
The Pro-Am provides a unique opportunity for amateur golfers to play alongside seasoned professionals, fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
The event has attracted elite amateurs, Daniel Kiragu, Daniel Chelogoi, Fred Njoroge and Jeremia Ngond’o.
