The Kenya Tong-Il Moo-Do Federation has announced the upcoming 12th Edition of the Mombasa Open Tong-IL Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship, set to take place in the Kenya’s Coastal City of Mombasa from this Thursday, 15th to Wednesday 28th, August at the Iconic Aga Khan Multipurpose Hall in Mombasa County.
This is according to a press release signed by Master Clarence Mwakio,the Chairman Kenya Tong-Il Moo-Do Federation/Executive Director, Mombasa Open Tong-IL Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship 2024 Organizing Committee.
He pointed out that the foreign teams will start arriving on Thursday,15th of August early for preparation and that the International Championship will kick off from Friday 23rd to Sunday, 25th, August with the Kenya National team ‘JASIRI” congregating in Mombasa early in preparation for the event.
Mwakio said that this prestigious event will bring together martial arts enthusiasts from over 45 Countries for a two-week-long celebration of skill, discipline, and camaraderie featuring an estimated total of between 300 to 500 participants expected to turn up for the championship.
“The International Martial Arts seminar, scheduled from will provide a platform for participants to enhance their martial arts expertise through intensive training sessions conducted by world-renowned masters. The event aims to foster knowledge sharing, cultural exchange, and the promotion of Tong-Il Moo-Do as a global discipline, “noted Mwakio.
Mwakio pointed out that the competition will feature fierce battles in sparring,forms, and special techniques, showcasing the highest level of martial arts talent from around the world and that new entrants to the championship includes Germany, Cyprus, Sao Tome & Principe, and Finland among others.
The Chairman further said the Mombasa Open Tong-IL Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship is the first martial arts program of its kind in Africa, the largest martial arts championship in the African continent and is accredited as a World Championship status event according to the World Tong-IL Moo-Do Federation events classification and rating.
“Participants also shall visit historical sites and as a tradition of this event, all participants both local and foreign shall go on a Safari and see our Wildlife at Tsavo. This promotes sports tourism and markets our Country, especially to the visiting foreign participants
from various Continents “said Mwakio.
He said hosting the Championship brings a range of benefits to the Country, including Economic, Cultural, Sports, and social advantages while contributing to the local economy, promotes the Country’s culture and tourism, encourages sports development, fosters community engagement, and leaves a lasting legacy.
Mwakoi pointed out that several supporters have come on board including among Top Time Shop, Techverge Africa, Travellers Beach Hotel and that the federation is also in talks with the Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Maritime Authority, and the County Government of Mombasa, among others.
“Kenya is honored to host this global event, which will attract thousands of participants, spectators, and media Representatives and the championship promise to be a thrilling spectacle that will captivate audiences with its dynamic displays of athleticism and martial prowess, “said Mwakio.
According to the programme, the twelve days features martial arts training, character education learning, specialized martial arts styles, participating in voluntary community services, touring the Country’s beautiful historical sites, and seeing exotic wildlife through the Safari experience including tree planting.
The competition is open to Tong-IL Moo-Do players the main host event and also Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Kung-Fu, Aikido, Jiujitsu, Ninjutsu, Hapkido, Capoeira, Japanese Kendo and Wushu.
The Championship 2024 Organizing Committee has also invited martial arts practitioners to compete in sparring, forms, and special techniques.
Competitors aged 8 years boys and girls will participate and for the adults, it will include Men and Women of up to 55 years who will contest as individuals and teams in various categories during the 3-day tournament.
The entire event will last for 14 days during which participants will go through training from international masters and grand masters of different martial styles, they attend character education, and lectures and take part in several voluntary community service projects in Mombasa.
