It was all smiles on the face of home Club’s Lady Golfer Caroline Munyi after clinching victory in the Chairman’s (Paul Munyao) Prize Golf Tournament played at the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 30 Munyi who vowed never to have bad shots again returned an excellent day’s best score of 43 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner in the daylong 18 holes Pro-Am tournament beating a team of 134 golfers.
Commonly known as ‘Caro-the-Mother of Baking Cakes” the win is a big achievement to her since it was her maiden victory of the season and biggest ever after many times of disappointed shots in the Course.
“You can see my face glittering with smiles all over my face. After suffering with bad shots, at last it has paid off with this victory and am so grateful to my playing partners, the organizers and sponsors for making this successful and enjoyable tournament. Am now rejunivated, fully back to the course with no more bad shots and looking forward to more positive wins in the forthcoming tournaments, “said Caroline.
The daylong 18 holes Pro-Am tournament organized by the Club to bid farewell to the outgoing Club Captain Paul Munyao attracted 134 golfers including eight Golf professionals, Amateurs, Guests and friends of the Captain with valid handicaps.
The latest brand new Audi Q3 model Car prize worth Khs 4 million courtesy of Kushi Motors Kenya was unfortunately driven back to the showroom after all the golfers missed to hit the ‘hole in one’at the hole no 12.

But Club’s green Keeper Tirus Githaiga playing off handicap 11 was content surviving on a two way count back score of 39 points to emerge the Men winner after tying on the same points with runners up placed handicap 13 Major Joel Mochanga and third placed handicap 19 Major Epapra Lagat.
The Lady winner’s prize was scooped by handicap 33 Orpha Wamaitha on 42 points while the Nyali Golf and Country Club’s Lady Captain Mary Mariga playing off handicap 16 carded 36 points to take the runners up slot and handicap 23 senior Coast Lady Golfer Jayne Githere was third on 33 points.

Left handed handicap 20 Elijah Ibua on 32 points won the best senior prize and Coast Radio Journalist handicap 36 Joan Kimani with 39 points was the Best Guest while handicap 16 Harsimran Kaur emerged the best Junior after returning a score of 39 points.

Symon Wambugu playing off handicap 18 was the best past Chairman with 34 points while handicap 25 Stephen Ngang’a on 38 points and handicap 37 Sammy Mwangi with 43 points were the Best Sponsor and Best High Handicapper winners respectively.
The Outgoing Chairman Paul Munyao thanked the Golfers, sponsors and the Club Board of Directors alongside the Club’s team of Staffs for their total support during his tenure in Office and also making the event successful.
“It has been a successful event with over 30 sponsors and many of my friends. Kindly allow me to express my heartfelt gratitude to you all for jointly taking the club forward during my tenure and please extend the same to the incoming office bearers, “said Munyao
Munyao pointed out that during his tenure in office, the Club has improved the members’ experience on the Golf Course and in the Club house and has also acquired new machinery for maintaining the course including a new tractor.
“We have also grown our relationships with our Partners and we have seen the return of Corporate Sponsors such as NCBA, KCB, KPA, and KMA among others and also partnered with the County Government of Mombasa to continue supporting the Club. Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has also supported us in various ways and we are also looking forward to growing our Club’s junior section and completing our course irrigation project as well as enlarging our pool of Partners, “said Munyao.
On behalf of the Club’s past Chairmen, Martin Wahome urged members to reflect on the rich legacy and camaraderie that have defined the Club’s golfing community over the more than past 100 years.
“Our past Chairmen have tirelessly dedicated their time and passion to nurture the spirit of sportsmanship and fellowship within these beautiful greens. They have steered this club through challenges and triumphs, shaping it into the vibrant community it is today, “noted Wahome.
He requested the Members to continue remembering the values that bind them together as Golfers, show respect for the game, integrity on and off the course, and the enduring friendships forged ‘under the African Sun’.
“May this Chairman’s tournament be a celebration of our shared history and a testament to the bright future that lies ahead. On behalf of the past chairmen, I extend gratitude to each Member for contributing to the enduring legacy of the Mombasa Golf Club. Let the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and the love for the game guide, “said Wahome.
The tournament was graced by among others the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman Philip Ochola, Nyali Golf and Country Club’s Chairman kamami Njoroge and Lady Captain Mary Mariga, Malindi’s Captain Henry Akello and Lady Captain Hamida Chidagaya,Diamond Leisure’s Lady Captain Caroline Mokaya and several Senior from clubs around the Country.
It was jointly supported by among others Comply, Kushi Motors Kenya, Yul’s, Multi Choice, Ustawi Grain Millers, Kenya National Police DT Sacco, Ndovu Cement, Pauland and Mombasa Inter-continental Resort.
Others were Africa Bliss Travel Limited, Nulook, Win Pharma, Deansbrook School, MMK, Anant Bhatt LLP, Tact Consultancy, Tamarind Dhow, Whitesands, Sai Roc.Hotel Saphire and Friends of the Chairman.
This Tourney follows a similar one for the Club’s Outgoing Captain James Gitonga Wachira successfully hosted two weeks ago where home Club’s handicap 15 Sheel Dodhia recorded 30 differential points to emerge the overall winner beating a team of 180 golfers.
