GOLF NEWS-Despite heavy rains, Gregory Mburu beats 238 Golfers to win the 2024 Patron’s (Joe Wangai) Putter tourney at Limuru;

Despite heavy rains, Gregory Mburu beat a team 238 golfers to emerge the overall winner in the 2024 Patron’s (Joe Wangai) Putter Golf Tournament played at Limuru Country Golf Club in Kiambu County on Sunday.
THE ICEA LION  supported tournament saw,the handicap 31 Golfer return an excellent score of 43 points to walk home with the Putter’s prize while handicap 2 John Kariuki claimed the gross title after carding 74 gross.

“Am really excited for this victory despite enduring playing under heavy rains. It was indeed a good day and Iam looking forward to playing better in the forthcoming events, “said Mburu.
Division A Men winner on 40 points was handicap 10 John Keru and the B division was won by handicap handicap 19 Steve Wanguru with a score of 42 points.
Stella Ruai playing off handicap 16 won the Lady’s Division A category with 35 points while handicap 23 Mukami Miako on 41 points was the Division B winner and taking the Division C title was handicap 40 Catherine Mugane on 31 points.
Other results were Guest winner-Fred Makala (23)-38 points,Senior winner-Eddka Njenga (13)-36 points, Junior winner-Sean Lyomo (21)-30 points, Staff Winner-P.Mikuria (35)-29 points, Nearest t pin winner Lady-Nancy wairimu, Straightest Drive Men winner-John Njuguna,Straightest Drive Lady-Barbra Kinyanjui,First nine winner-Jotham Wanjohi (18)-21points,Second nine winner-Kangethe Ndiho (14)-21 points and Best effort winner-James Githinji (13)-15points.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony, ICEA LION Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Philip Lopokoiyit said the Compnay believes that responsible business practices not only enhances their operational performance but also contributes positively to the society in which they operate and pointed out that the event was in honor of the group’s Chairman Mr. Joe Wangai.
Lopokoiyit pointed further pointed out that the event was celebrates Mr.Wangai’s leadership, commitment, and vision under the captivating theme of ‘Safari Elegance’.
He said the event was a great memorable celebration of Mr.Wangai, reinforcing the strong ties within the golfing community and encouraging continued excellence and sportsmanship.
“ICEA LION is paying tribute to Chairman Mr. Joe Wangai, whose leadership has been instrumental in fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and sustainability within the ICEA LION Group and the broader golfing community where his vision as the Patron has propelled the Club and the group to new heights, making significant impacts on both the sport and the community.
The event kicked off with focus on Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) initiative which stands out as a cornerstone of the corporate’s ethos by planting 50 trees, an initiative to improve forest cover at the Club.

ICEA Lion group Chairman and Club patron Joe Wangai further said the day started with a tree planting exercise, a vivid example of the group’s commitment to sustainability.
“Each tree planted will grow to become a vital part of the ecosystem to enrich the environment and serve as a living legacy of today’s efforts, “noted Wangai.
Limuru Country Club is a private Members’ club that was established in 1945 by colonial settlers and opened its first nine holes in 1949 and the second nine holes in 1952.
Other than the Golf course, the Club consists of lawn bowling, tennis courts, a cricket pitch, squash courts and a swimming pool.


The club is located 25 kilometers from Nairobi, surrounded by luxuriously verdant Tea fields with a proud reputation of providing Members and their guests with a friendly, welcoming and inclusive experience.
Golf is the dominant sport at Limuru country club and Just 30 minutes from Nairobi City Centre, Limuru’s eighteen hole course is widely regarded as the most scenic in Kenya with one of the best club house veranda views in all of Africa.
At an altitude of seven thousand (7000) feet and set amidst the sprawling tea plantations and rolling farmlands, Limuru provides a unique hole-by-hole challenge for all members, visitors and guests.
The Limuru course played host to the Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship event in October 2015, the first time the event was held in East Africa.
