Mombasa Lawyer Provia Odhiambo braved all odds to triumph in the KenGen Golf tournament played at the Sea-Link par 71 Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Provia who had to overcome the current nearby Indian Ocean harsh sea waves found herself at the podium after yet surviving on a count back score of an excellent 40 stable ford points to emerge the overall day’s winner.
“Iam humbled before you and excited to the Star of the day after my golf had gone low for a long time. But I kept on working on my grips and putting and this is the results today and now fully back, “said Provia.

She had tied on the same score with handicap 10 Maj.Joel Mochanga who was the Man winner while Sammy Mulama carded a three over par 74 gross to win the gross prize.
Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) sponsored the day long 18 holes tournament that brought an estimated 150 golfers from the home Club, Nyali Golf and Country Club, Diamond Leisure Golf Resort, Malindi Country Club led by the Club Captain Henry Akello and Lady Captain Hamida Chidagaya, Staffs, Guests and others from up Country Clubs with valid handicaps.
Major Epapra Lagat playing off handicap 15 brought 38 points to emerge the runners up and handicap 26 George Nesbitt was third on a score of 37 points.

The Lady winner was handicapping 30 Winfred Ndunge on a count back score of 32 points beating handicap 20 Faith Muteti to the runners up slot on the same score.
Handicap 20 Victor Atwa scooped the best staff prize with 28 points displacing handicap 6 Daniel Tanui to the runners up, slot by a single shot difference and the Guest prize on 33 points was won by handicap 13 Peter Warari.


Club Chairman Paul Munyao, flanked by his Captain Francis Muthamia said they are happy to host the tournament at the course which is playing well and looking forward for a stronger partnership with KenGEN to grow the sport of the Golf.
They led Members on congratulating the Club’s immediate Captain James Gitonga who was last Friday Elected one of the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Executive Member.

KenGen’s Assistant Manager and Human Resource Manager Bethwel Ogwayo who later led his team and the Club Members for a tree planting exercise around the course said that under the Company’s Corporate Social responsibility (CSR), they been planting trees at various Golf Clubs around the Country to beat the climate Change.
“Golf and Green go hand in hand at KenGen. Today, as part of our commitment to mitigating climate change, TeamKenGen takes a swing at sustainability by playing trees and donating over 1,000 seedlings to the Club members, “said Ogwayo.

Presently KenGen operates five major geothermal power plants with 12 installed units, namely: Olkaria I, Olkaria II, Olkaria I unit 4 and 5, Olkaria IV, Olkaria V. 16 wellhead plants with 21 installed units.
The Olkaria geothermal power stations are located in Nakuru County within the Hell’s Gate National Park bordering Lake Naivasha within the Great Rift Valley.
