The penultimate leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour is expected to be headlined by 250 top amateur golfers from around the Country at the par 72 Ruiru Sports Club this weekend.
The 11-month-long series has traversed twenty counties in Kenya and four Countries in the East African region namely Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda and will culminate in a grand finale slated for December 6th, at the Sigona Golf Club.
Ruiru Sports Club Captain James Muraguri said, “For the first time ever, we are part of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour – a tournament that has made significant contributions to the growth of the sport in Kenya and beyond. We are looking forward to hosting between 230 to 250 players as they compete for the top spots. I can assure golfers that the course is in its absolute best shape and they can look forward to an amazing experience here in Ruiru.”
Action will get underway at 6:30 am for the morning tee while the afternoon tee time is scheduled for 12:30 pm as golfers battle it out on the fairway for the top two positions that will see them book a slot in the tour’s grand finale expected to be graced by 180 players from around the region.
KCB Group Director Marketing and Communications, Rosalind Gichuru said, “The second edition of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour has been a huge success. Through this series, we have reached over 3000 participants and over 1500 juniors through the golf clinics that ran concurrently with the series. This is an indication that as a brand, we are taking deliberate efforts in building the game to an elite level. Our commitment to sports and specifically golf has never been in doubt.”
The Bank has partnered with Beulah City Limited, a property firm, who have committed to give an apartment (in the Ikhaya Beulah Genesis project) valued at Ksh2.1 million as the hole-in-one prize for every leg of the 2024 tour.
On Sunday, November 17th, KCB will host a juniors’ golf clinic at the same venue and a tree planting exercise in a bid to strengthen its environment conservation efforts.
KCB Bank footprint in Sports support in the Country is expansive and cuts across various Sports disciplines that includes the KCB Women Volleyball Club, KCB Football Club and KCB Rugby Club besides other sports including Chess, Athletics, and Golf.
The long-standing tradition of sponsoring major sporting events in the country has seen the Bank pump millions of shillings in sponsorships over the years.
Reports Maarufu Mohamed, golfnewslinks, elsewhere at the Kakamega sports club also over the weekend, golfers from Nandi Bears sports club will be hosted for a Matchplay tournament in the ongoing Western league series.
Club Chairman Andrew Maleche said each team will field 12 golfers and that all arrangements and preparation is complete in readiness for the tournament.
Maleche will be leading his team among them their green keeper who is also the Matchplay coordinator Ronald Omondi, and the Junior golf foundation (JGF) coordinator Western region Derek Bluechip Mwaura among others.
Nandi Bears club will be sending a strong team that includes Dr Kimeli Mutai and Elite amateur Elly Barno.
