Coast golfer Tony Mintos displayed a brilliant show to clinch this year’s Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) top prize in a tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa County on Thursday.
Playing off handicap 15 Mintos carded a sterling 42 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner in the day long stable ford tournament that featured a team of 170 players drawn from the home club, Sea-front Mombasa, Diani’s Diamond Leisure, Vipingo Baobab, Malindi and guests of the sponsor with valid handicaps.
“Thank you ICPAK for putting on this great brilliantly run tournament. Big thanks to my playing partners for keeping it competitive, you guys kept it close and made me hit every shot. Thanks to the club staffs for maintaining the course condition that looks amazing and to my family for all the support. Nyali is always a tough test, but I’m grateful it went my way today. It has not been an easy victory because, the competition was tough from tees to greens but the course is in great shape and the greens running fast. Hope to defend this again next time, “said Mintos.
The ICPAK sponsored tournament saw, William Odeck playing off -1 handicap carding a 1 over par 72 gross to win the gross title while handicap 21 Salim Taib on 40 points and handicap 28 Tommy Mohamed with 39 points claimed the men winner and runners up slots.

The club’s former Lady Captain Mary Kandu playing off handicap 11 clinched the lady’s top spot on 40 points beating her colleague handicap 12 Christine Ockotch to the runners up position by a 2 points difference.
Handicap 23 General (retired) P.M. Kariuki was the best senior having brought 35 points while school boy Aryan Joseph playing off handicap 21 emerged the best junior after carding 37 points.
The High handicap men and Lady winners’ prizes were clinched by handicap 32 John Kabiru on 43 points and handicap 41 Sally Kang’ethe with 32 points respectively.
Elsewhere, the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has on Thursday made changes by appointing James Ondigo as the new President of the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF), succeeding Vincent Mukiri, who has served in
the role for the past year.
According to a press release from KGU dated May,20th, Ondigo who is a member of Muthaiga Golf Club will serve for a two-year term ending in March 2028.
“Ondigo has served extensively within both the club and the JGF, previously holding the positions of Nairobi Region Representative, Trustee, Vice-President, and Tournament Director. In these capacities,
he has played a key role in the successful implementation of JGF competitions and junior golf development initiatives across the country, “said part of the statement.
It further says that, over the years, Ondigo has maintained a strong and consistent presence at junior
golf events nationwide and has remained deeply committed to the growth and advancement of the junior game.
“His appointment reflects his longstanding contribution to junior golf and his dedication to creating opportunities for young golfers in Kenya. As President, Ondigo will lead the Foundation with a mandate to further strengthen junior golf development pathways, expand participation, and build sustainable
programmes that continue to nurture the next generation of Kenyan golfers, “said the statement.
It pointed out that Ondigo will also chair the JGF Board of Trustees, which is jointly appointed by the
Kenya Golf Union (KGU) and the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) which comprises Gicheru Kimani, Josiah Mwangi, Beiju Shah, Hannah Gatu, Priscilla Karobia and Rodah Mukami.
KGU expressed its appreciation to Vincent Mukiri for his dedicated service and leadership during his tenure, which contributed significantly to the continued advancement of junior golf development programmes in the country.
