Muthaiga Golf Club is set to host the 2024 Waziri Golf Tournament this Sunday, 21st April at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Course in Nairobi.
The event will serve as prelude to the forthcoming Connected Africa Summit 2024, and aims to unite ICT professionals, entrepreneurs, and policymakers in a dynamic setting ahead of the summit, which is scheduled to commence on Monday, 22nd April 2024 at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi.
The tournament, hosted by the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Information, Communication & Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, has attracted a field of 150 amateur golfers who will grace the greens of the par-71 golf course.
Expressing his anticipation for the event, CS Owalo said, “This Tournament, presents a unique opportunity for networking among like-minded ICT industry professionals and policymakers from across Africa in the lead-up to the Connected Africa Summit. Our goal is to warmly welcome our esteemed guests, fostering meaningful interactions in a relaxed environment before the Summit officially begins. Moreover, we aim to showcase Kenya’s exceptional golfing experience. We eagerly await the tournament and extend a warm welcome to all our guests.”
Highlighting the Summit’s objectives, CS Owalo emphasized, “This continental Summit, organized by my Ministry under the auspice of the ICT Authority, endeavors to underscore the important role of the digital economy in propelling economic growth and development in the African continent. It will serve as a platform for African leaders, policy-makers, investors, and businesses to converge, exploring the vast opportunities offered by the digital economy while addressing pertinent barriers and challenges affecting our economies.”
Held under the theme “Shaping the Future of a Connected Africa-Unlocking Growth beyond Connectivity”, the Connected Africa Summit 2024, is a high-level forum for key African Policy and decision-makers aimed at shaping the future of Africa’s Digital Economic Landscape.
The Summit will build on the achievements of the Connected Summit which has for the last 14 years convened top global ICT thought leaders and policymakers to champion innovative ideas and partnerships that leverage technology.
It will commence with an official opening by President William Ruto and is expected to draw over 5,000 dignitaries, including African Heads of State, Ministers and the outgoing African Union Chairperson Moussa Faki.
Others are the African Development Bank Group President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, and American Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, among other esteemed guests.
The event will span from Monday 22nd April to Thursday 25th April.
