Windsor Golf and Country Club’s Kanana Muthomi registered an excellent round of 223 gross to emerge the overall winner of this year’s Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Golf championship that concluded at the par 71 Limuru Country Club in Kiambu County on Sunday.
The 13-years old Kanana commonly known as ‘Nana’ who started playing golf at the age 4 years currently playing off handicap minus 2, started day one on Friday with a 4 over par 75 gross, played a 5 over par 76 gross in the second day on Saturday and rounded up the last day on Sunday with a 1 over par 72 gross to be crowned the Champion.

And for her efforts, Kanana was awarded the ‘Mary Neville’ Trophy and also a voucher to Mtalii Bush Camp in Nanyuki, Kenya for a duration of three days and two nights, courtesy of Virtuous Explorers.
“I would like to thank my Coach, Parents and my Club for their continued great support. I’m so delighted to clinch this trophy and winning this tournament means a lot to me. I really did enjoy every off the game but took evet shot with great care. I shall continue training hard and my aim now is to play Magical Kenya Ladies Open next season. Thank you all, “said Kanana.
This three days 54 holes’ tournament organized by Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) is World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and a key Golfer of the Year (GOTY) tournament that featured some top 97 Elite lady amateurs from host Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi and China.
Golf Park’s Mercy Wafula carded a total of 267 gross to claim the ‘Dolan Bowl’ trophy while Mercy Nyanchama from Njoro emerged the division A gross winner on 227 gross as Arusha Gymkhana’s Neema Olomi with 232 gross and Royal Nairobi’s Cherono Kipkprir on 233 gross emerged the division A runner up and third placed respectively.
Stella Njoroge from Nyanza grabbed the ‘Sigona Quaich’ trophy on Division B category after recording 285 gross beating Vet lab’s Farida Limo to the runners up by a single stroke difference as Caroline Cheptoo from the home settled for the third slot with 291 gross.
Kenya Railways Club also had a winner on Lillian Mogoye carding 327 gross to grab the ‘Mary Wambugu’ trophy.
Other winners include the nett section where the division A was won by Lydia Maina on 214 nett while Patrician Gichuhi carded 231 nett to win the division B prize.
The best Friday gross winner in Division A with 73gross was Cherise Wachira and division B winner in the same day was claimed by Agnes Nyambura on 99 gross.
Saturday division A gross winner was Benta Khanili who had 78 gross while Gladys Maina brought 96 gross to win the Division B category.
And Madina Iddy took command on Sunday to emerge the best gross winner with 75 gross in Division A and Rehema Mohamed did the same with 95 gross on the side of division B.
Past winners of this prestigious tournament are Serah Khanyereri (2021), Channelle Wangari {2022), Madina Iddy (2023), Joyce Wanjiru (2024) and Kellie Gachaga (2025).
KLGU Chairman Mukami Wangai extended appreciation on behalf of the union to the Club noting that the course is in superb condition and also to all the players for the participation despite the cold weather.
“Ladies you are the reason ladies Golf in Kenya keeps growing and you continue inspiring every young girl into the sport, “said Mukami.
She explained that the tournament is staged annually and is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event for women, usually played in two divisions namely Division A, for the Mary Neville Trophy, and the Division B, which is the Sigona Quaich.
Mukami pointed out that this time the tournament had a good field of Juniors in both Divisions and especially the Division A, where they performed very well and this is one of three individual Championship events that runs every year organized by KLGU.
“So these tournaments attract our top players. We’re also really happy to have top players coming in from other Countries. And we are very much looking forward to the performance of our players improving as they continue competing against one another.
