Dedan Ngatia beat a team of 120 players to emerge the overall winner of the Nanyuki Hospital 2026 February Mug golf tournament played at the par 72 Nanyuki Sports Club course in Laikipia County over the weekend.
Playing off handicap 15 carded a brilliant score of 68 nett to claim the Mug in the day long 18 holes’ tournament sponsored by Nanyuki Hospital limited.
“I thank my golf partners for the laughs and support on the course, the organizers, sponsors for putting together such a fantastic tournament and my family for their support. I stand before you this evening, much excited and thrilled to have won this Mug. This marks an exciting golfing season for me and aim extremely grateful, “said Ngatia.
Gen. Peter Waweru playing off handicap 5 was the first runners up on 69 nett while handicap 6 Mark Kirimi with 71 nett and handicap 13 Francis Mathege on 72 nett were the second and third runners ups respectively.
The Lady winner’s prize was scooped by handicap 28 Hellen Kurutu who had a score of 70 nett with Nyahururu’s handicap 17 Gerald Kamau carding 74 nett to win the guest prize and handicap 24 Neil Mwithukia was the junior winner after recording a score of 74 nett.
The Cat B men winner on 96 nett and Lady winner on 78 nett, were handicap 32 Valerian Micheni and handicap 30 Marion Githinji respectively.
Nanyuki Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Wambugu, noted that the weekend tournament that attracted golfers from within Laikipia and beyond, provided a platform for sport, networking and wellness.
“The hospital recognizes the important role of physical activity and community engagement in preventive healthcare and this, reaffirms our commitment to community partnership and the promotion of healthy lifestyles,’ said Wambugu.
He pointed out that the initiative to support sports forms part of the hospital’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility efforts aimed at strengthening local institutions and supporting activities that promote wellbeing across the region.
