Margaret Njoki becomes the latest Kenyan female member of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) after Kiambu’s Joyce Wanjiru and Kilifi County’s Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort Club’s Naomi Wafula who also joined the rank recently.
Determined, tough, resilient, go getter and hardworking are just some words that describes Njoki, the Golf Park Club’s lady Golfer who turned professional in January 2026, becomes the latest third Kenya’s lady Professional.
She was excited, grateful and thrilled to turn professional while extending many gratitude to her family, coaches, and everyone who supported her during the journey.
“Woo, its time now to take up a notch and I’m extremely honored to join the pros. I’m also excited for the challenges ahead and to inspire more ladies in Golf. I’ll keep working hard and represent Kenyan Golf with pride, “said Njoki.
While it is hard to believe that 13 years ago, Njoki had never stepped on any Golf course and never held a Golf Club, let alone seen a Golf ball, but by the year 2023, She is already on top of her game with over 100 trophies on her shelf and multiple tournament championship titles under her belt.
What is most impressive about her journey in the Golfing world that began in the year 2012, is that it was all self-taught, with some help from Kenya’s Lady Veteran Golfer Rose Naliaka who inspired and mentored her to the real world of Golf.
Today Njoki is a role model to women across Africa and is now yearning to share her passion and love for Golf with the rest of the world and also simply wants to train and infuse this passion of the sport into women and children.
Golf is Njoki’s world that literally saved her life and gave her shot in life with the journey that began when she first walked into Ngong Race Course Golf Club in Nairobi one Monday morning in 2012, armed with her Identity card only and didn’t know how the sport was going to change her world.
Njoki knew nothing about Golf and all she knew is that this was a fresh start and the life line she only needed as a single mother of three.
That same morning, she was taken to the Golf course to be trained how to be a caddy that turned out to be the ‘real definition of baptism by fire.’
On Tuesday, she was given a client to Caddy for and there was no turning back after that and decided this was going to be her life, making early mornings, late evenings that became the routine as she watched her clients play quietly taking in every detail of the game as she caddied.
In three months, Njoki become the Caddy of choice for most members at the Club because of her hard work and quiet nature
After months and months of watching and learning the game, Njoki entered her first tournament in late 2012 and emerged top in a Caddy’s competition.
Her passion and talent was now evident to all and as a result a member approached her to be his Caddy and at the same time offered to by her first Golf kit and in less than two years Njoki was a single handicap.
Her notable achievements include Joining the national team in 2019, playing in the European tour in Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort course in Kilifi County and emerging overall winner in the Ladies Nanyuki circuit.
Others includes watching her students play, playing with them, Coaching Juniors at her Club and training Juniors in the US Kids Kenya camp.
Njoki’s next stop is her goal to now focus in playing professional tournaments in and outside the Country and in the European Tour.
After more than 10 years in the game, Njoki is now a certified Golf Coach, a Champion within Africa, ready to spread her love for Golf through training and has so far trained over 50 students who are actively competing regionally.
Njoki is proud that Golf fed and educated her three children and given her regional recognition while also opening a World of opportunities and impact.
Kenya Ladies Golf Union Chairman (KLGU) Rosemary Mkok noted, “From progress to pro, what a time for ladies Golf in Kenya. It’s now growth, talent and momentum for us the Ladies. Congratulations Njoki.”
Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Chairman C.J. Wangai said, “We are happy for Njoki and to the ladies, more so the young ones, please note that the door is now open to join the Association and become pros for the first time in history that ladies have been incorporated into PGK, and as an Association, we felt it was only proper to open up so that we can give them hope, as we’re only second to South Africa in the region to administer ladies as pros into the pro body.”
Njoki’s parting shot, “Giving up is not a solution but consistency is the key. To be good Golfer, be patient, believe in yourself, anything it’s possible with God. It’s not an easy journey and also work hard nothing comes easy.”
